Phyllis Louise Bales was born August 2, 1931 in Breckenridge, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Arthur Merle and Helen Louise (Molenbrink) Bacon. As a young girl Phyllis was raised and received her education in Garber where she later graduated from Garber High School. At the age of 17, on June 17, 1949, Phyllis was introduced to a young man, Lee Edward Bales. The couple danced the entire night at the convention center in Enid, Oklahoma, listening to Leon McAuliffe. Following a short courtship the two were united in marriage on November 4, 1949 in Breckenridge, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Enid and soon moved to Pennsylvania. They resided in Pennsylvania until September of 1951 when Phyllis and Lee relocated to Paducah, Kentucky. In August of 1952, Lee was transferred to the Dominican Republic where they resided until November when they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shortly after their move to Tulsa, Phyllis gained employment with Tulsa Winch where she worked for several years. Phyllis and Lee returned to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in March of 1956 where they continued to reside until 1960 when they returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1964, Phyllis accepted a position with Accurate Fire Equipment as a bookkeeper and was employed there until the early 1980Ãs. In 1977, Phyllis and Lee purchased a farm in Jennings, Oklahoma where Phyllis continued to reside even after the death of her husband, Lee on October 28, 2001. Phyllis had a love for life and enjoyed being with her family at every opportunity; she dedicated her life to taking care of her husband, children and family. She especially treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren during the holiday seasons. Phyllis will be remembered for her loving personality and smile, her caring heart and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Phyllis went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of seventy-nine. Survivors include her four sons and their wives, A. D. and Peggy Bales of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Richard and Martha Bales of Owasso, Oklahoma, Leon and Donna Bales of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Brian and Tina Bales of Jennings, Oklahoma; one brother Merle Bacon of Enid, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; Kristy, Aaron, Stephanie, Chad, Christina, Michael, Anna, Danielle, Jessica, Eric and Tyler; eleven great-grandchildren, Caila, Garrett, Baylie, Tommy, Adam, Matthew, Noah, Nick, Blake, Faith, Austin as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Wilma Ray Vivrett. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Sheridan Road Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Pastor John Plum officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm in the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
