Phyllis Jean Cordes of Cleveland, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 64 years. Phyllis was born September 17, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Bettie (Dietrick) Cordes. As a young girl Phyllis grew up in many different places due to the fact that her father worked on the construction of highways throughout the United States. In the early 1960Ãs, the family moved to California. During this time Phyllis met Bob Bracy and was later united in marriage on February 9, 1962 in San Francisco, California. The couple remained in California until 1970, when they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Phyllis later moved south of Cleveland, Oklahoma to be closer to her daughters in 1990. In 1993, Phyllis moved into Cleveland where she has continued to reside. Upon moving to the Cleveland Area, Phyllis became active at the Westport Baptist Church where she was a member for many years. During that time she was active in teaching childrenÃs Sunday school as well as an integral part of the prayer chain. At the time Phyllis moved into Cleveland she transferred her membership to the Western Heights Baptist Church. Phyllis enjoyed listening to country and gospel hymns. She also enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping, taking vacations as well as playing bingo. Phyllis had a big heart and would do anything in her power to help another person in need. There was one thing in life that gave her great enjoyment and that was being with her children, grandchildren and family that she loved dearly. She felt that her greatest accomplishment in life was raising three good children. Survivors are her mother Bettie Cordes of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; three children Ronnie Bracy and his wife Nellie of Hampton, Virginia, Debbie Hinchey and her husband Steve of Cleveland, Oklahoma, April McWhirt and husband Brian of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters in law Carrie Cordes of Roseville, California, Judy Bracy of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; nine and half grandchildren Christina McGraw, Chrystal Bracy, Christopher Bracy, Emily Hinchey, Grant Hinchey, Jared Hinchey, Chase McWhirt, Taiyler McWhirt, Paige McWhirt; three great grandchildren Isaiah Sturgis, Makayla Bracy, Anaiah McGraw as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father Charles Francis Cordes, two brothers Richard Cordes, Danny Cordes; one brother in law Jim Bracy. Church services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the Sanctuary of the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Private burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
