Phillip Nolan Wilson

Phillip Nolan Wilson was born on July 13, 1938 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was the son of Dewey Frank and Ernestine Bell (Surritte) Wilson. As young boy Phillip was raised and received his education in Hominy. At the completion of his education Phillip joined the United States Marine Corp on June 24th 1957. He served his country valiantly and was later honorably discharged on June 24th 1960. During his time in the service Phillip served in the Philippines and Japan before returning stateside as a Military Police in San Diego, California. Phillip returned to Hominy and worked in the oilfield and later began working at the local lumber yard. He soon gained employment with the Hominy Police Department and moved to the Fire Department on April 15, 1966. Phillip worked at the department for many years and was later promoted to Chief. He retired from the Hominy Fire Department as Chief on April 15, 1989 after 23 years. Phillip enjoyed working with wood. He made numerous pieces of furniture, toyís and wind chimes. He made cartoon characters, birds, replicas of Mickey Mouse and Snoopy. Phillip also spent many hours fishing and hunting. Every year Phillip would drive to Missouri to see his grandmother who he adored. He also had a great sense of humor and the ability to pretend he was serious but deep down was only teasing. Phillip passed away from this life on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home. Survivors are his loving wife of over 50 years Jackie Wilson of the home, three children Phillip Randall Wilson and Barbara of Hominy, Oklahoma; Kimberly Dawn Wilson and Chris Couffer of Hominy, Oklahoma, Travis Nolan Wilson of Hominy, Oklahoma; two grandsons Anthony Wilson, Tyler Wilson; one sister Mary L. and her husband Bill Patterson of Claremore, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents; Phillip was preceded in death by four brothers Oscar, Gene, Darrell and Melvin as well as two sisters Murlene and Amelia. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Hominy, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Formby. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends and family are asked to share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
