Philip Ward

Philip Dwight Ward of Cleveland went to be with the LORD on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home. He was 82 years of age. Philip was born August 25, 1942, in Muskogee, OK, the son of M.T. and Elsie (Hampton) Ward. He was raised in rural Muskogee County, until he was in junior high, when the family moved to California. Philip graduated from high school in Bell Gardens, CA where he was active in football, wrestling and track. While in junior high, he met the love of his life, Judy Ann Harrison. They were united in marriage in 1961, and while on their honeymoon, went deep sea fishing. He and Judy later moved back to Oklahoma, settling in Tulsa until making Cleveland their home in 1972. Philip dedicated his life to establishing a restaurant, named after Judy "Judy Ann's Restaurant" to serve the Cleveland community for the next 30 years. He and Judy loved the people of Cleveland and were active in the community. Philip took a special interest in custom classic cars and won several awards. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on his classic cars, and taking his family on yearly vacations. He was pretty good at everything he did.

Philip took his family on many vacations across the United States. He took great joy in giving and providing for his family. A man of music, he specially loved Elvis and George Jones. Philip was known as a generous, honest and hardworking man. Phil had a special relationship with Pastor George Boston. He honored and respected him, and they would often have coffee together weekly.

Those that survive and hold many cherished memories include his wife Judy of 50 plus years of marriage; his mother Elsie, and his two children - Lisa Rene Ward and Dwight Van Ward. Also surviving is a grandson Kwyntin Cannon and a brother Daniel Van Ward. Philip was preceded by his father.

There will be a public visitation on Monday, April 14th from 1pm -5pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be on Tuesday. Chapman-Black Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. www.chapman-black.com
