Peggy Lou Griffith

Peggy L. Griffith, of Broken Arrow, was welcomed into heaven with a glorious reunion of loved ones on July 16, 2023. Daughter of Earl and Norma (Sutton) Cook, Peggy was born March 24, 1940. She had six close siblings and spent her early years in Cleveland. She married Woodrow Griffith in 1958 and they soon had four children under 4. Peggy was a wonderful homemaker and cook, and their table was often filled with extended family and friends.

Being a mother was her greatest joy. She not only doted on all children, but also instilled in them values of kindness, empathy and generosity while making them feel important and understood. She taught Sunday school as well as Head Start in the program’s earliest years in Osage County. She was a lifelong reader with an interest in many subjects and that, coupled with her genuine interest in people, made her a great conversationalist.

After raising their family in Cleveland, the Griffiths moved to Grand Lake to work at a private resort for 17 years. They retired nearby and spent many lovely years hosting their children, grandchildren and great-grands. After Woody’s death in 2019, Peggy moved to Broken Arrow, just a few streets from her daughter.

Peggy is survived by son Russell Griffith and wife Christina; daughter Tracy Pratt and husband Gregg; son Scott Griffith and wife April; son Timothy Griffith; and sister Sharon May. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Tom Cook, Orval Cook, Pat Thompson, Bill Cook and Midge Thompson-Bragg; and Woody, her husband of 61 years. Peggy was laid to rest Monday, July 24, at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, following a family service at Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
