Pauline was born January 3, 1937, in Tulare, California. She was the daughter of Lawrence Dewey and Cora Belle (Strong) Cross. Pauline was raised and received her education in Tulare where she later graduated from high school. Soon after high school, Pauline was united in marriage to Oads James Childress on January 8, 1955, in Waukina, California. The couple established their first home in the San Joaquin Valley. The couple moved several times between California and Oklahoma before moving to Cleveland in the early 1970’s. While residing in Cleveland, Pauline worked as a seamstress at Munsingwear in Hominy, Oklahoma where she later retired.
Pauline had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed crocheting, reading and dancing when she could. Pauline spent many hours reading the Bible, novels or anything with religious value. Pauline loved having the grandchildren to her home especially during Easter and always having Easter egg hunts for them. She also enjoyed sending them cards during birthday and holiday times. Pauline was a giver always giving to those in need and enjoyed doing it.
Pauline Joyce Childress passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at St John's Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years old.
Survivors are her three children Debbie Lewis and her husband Roger of Midland, Texas, Troy Childress and his wife Vickie of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Laura Ready of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers Wes Cross and his wife Ruby of Arizona, Ronnie Cross and his wife Pat of California; two sisters June Cross of California, Jewell White of Missouri; eight grandchildren Stephanie Schweser, Blake Clark, Logan Childress, Zac Childress, Whittnie Brown, Tanis Ready, Brock Ready, Levi Ready; nineteen great grandchildren Ava, Henry, Benjamin, Callie, Lexi, Dylan, Peyton, Josslyn, Cash, Kaden, Teagan, Fallen, Bryton, Ryatt, Addilyne, Gage, Lennox, Jackson, Adriana as well as host of other relatives and friends that will definitely miss her. In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Oads, two sisters Emogene Morgan, Francis Thompson, and a grandson Chance Childress.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at the First Assembly of God with Rev. Dan Edens and Rev. Garry McDevitt officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mannford, Oklahoma. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 pm until 6 pm at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
