Paul Edward Hooper, passed away at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma Friday, April 8, 2016 at the age of 79 years, four months and twenty three days.
Paul was born November 16, 1936, in Signet, Oklahoma on the family farm. He was the son of Loyd Edward and Frances Lillian (Shafer) Hooper. Paul began his education at Prosperity School and the family later moved to Pawnee, Oklahoma where he continued his education. Following the completion of his education Paul, joined the National Guard. Then later transferred to the U.S. Air Force. He was initially stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. Paul returned home on leave and during that time he met the love of his life Evelyn Eileen Blanchard at a town fair in September of 1957 in Glencoe, Oklahoma. Following a two-week courtship, as he was heading back to Florida, Paul proposed to Evelyn. The two was united in marriage on December 26, 1957. They returned to Florida in January and Paul was soon stationed overseas. He has also served in Thule, Greenland, Panama, Florida, two tour in Vietnam, Hawaii, Luke Air Force Base and retired following 20 years in the Air Force while stationed at Whiteland Air Force Base in Missouri. Following retirement, Paul and Evelyn moved to Cleveland in May of 1975, where they have continued to reside. After retirement, Paul worked as an automotive mechanic and small engine repair.
Paul loved fishing and one of his dreams was to go back one more time deep sea fishing. He also enjoyed playing the slot machines. Paul collected eagles, die cast model cars and his favorite shows on televisions was Emergency 51, Bonanza, wrestling and NASCAR Racing. Paul was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. Paul and Evelyn enjoyed traveling to Tennessee to visit their family and friends. They have also taken many trips to Georgia to see their family as well. Paul was also an avid OU Football and Dallas Cowboy fan. His favorite foods were frog legs, catfish and sweet breads. Paul will be dearly missed both by loved ones, friends and pet Bubba.
Survivors are his wife Evelyn Hooper of Cleveland, Oklahoma, two sons Larry Hooper of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Billy Hooper of Jennings Oklahoma, two daughters Terri Hassell of Linden, Tennessee, Sherie Daniels of Ringgold, Georgia, three brothers Jimmie Hooper, Tommy Hooper, Garry Hooper, two sisters Frances Thomas and Janet Wharton, seven grandchildren and six great granchildren and also numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held 1:30 pm Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Steve Southward officiating. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.
