Funeral services for Patty Jean Calderwood of Cleveland, Oklahoma will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Mike Tiner officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma with Chapman-Black Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Patty was born on May 30, 1935, in Muleshoe, Texas. She was the daughter of Henry Lee and Esther Ellen (Marcum) Reynolds. As a young girl Patty moved with her family to Hominy, Oklahoma from Texas. Patty later graduated from Hominy High School with the Class of 1953. During her time in high school she worked in the mornings before school for her parents at Leeís Cafe. Following high school Patty furthered her education in Stillwater, Oklahoma at Oklahoma A&M College. She was later united in marriage to the love of her life Gordon W. Calderwood, Sr. on June 6, 1956, in Hominy, Oklahoma. The couple lived in several places following their marriage due to the fact Gordon was in the United States Air Force. Following his discharge from the United States Air Force the couple made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1962, Patty and Gordon moved to Cushing and Checotah Oklahoma before moving to Cleveland, Oklahoma where she has continued to reside. Patty was a very active part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She volunteered many hours at the family history center. Patty has helped numerous people trace their genealogy and even traced hers back many generations. Patty and Gordon traveled to many places through out the United States in search of their ancestors. Patty also donated her time to the Cleveland Library on numerous occasions. As a young child Patty had an experience that left a lifelong impression on her. She recalled seeing Jesus Christ and he told her that the next time he came she could go with him. Patty also stated that her family was so poor that she learned how to read the Bible since that was the only book the family had. Patty enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting, and beadwork. She was a very crafty person with a bubbly personality who loved to laugh. One thing in life that Patty was most proud of was that she was a Temple worthy Latter Day Saint. Patty Jean Calderwood passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Cimarron Pointe Care Center in Mannford, Oklahoma at the age of 77 years, seven months and twenty two days. Survivors include her son Dr. Gordon Calderwood, Jr. and his wife Diane of Temple, Texas; one sister Gay Garrett of Hominy, Oklahoma; one brother Dennis Reynolds of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister in law Maureen Larsen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one brother in law James Calderwood of Tulsa, Oklahoma and many other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents Patty was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Calderwood, Sr. and an infant brother Doyle Reynolds.
