Funeral services for Opal Carter will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary of the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.

Pallbearers will include Paul Cheek, Jason Cheek, Adam Cheek, Granville Sissom, Dale Carter and Herbert Carter.

Opal Nadine Carter was born April 17, 1922, in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Ernest Lee and Bessie Alvera (Hansard) Kelso. As a young girl Opal was raised and attended school in Cleveland. After Opal finished her education she was united in marriage to Raymond Alvah Tisher on May 24, 1941 and to this union there are two children Maxine and Tom. In 1943 and the unexpected death of Raymond, Opal continued to raise her two children. Opal was later united in marriage to Alvie Franklin Carter on January 7, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma an to this union there is one child Alan. Opal and Alvie made Cleveland their home where they continued to raise their children.

Opal was baptized and began attending the General Baptist Church in Keystone, Oklahoma. Several years later she began attending Western Heights Baptist Church. Opal was a very active part of the church and held the position as the secretary of Sunday school as well as worked in the nursery. After the death of her husband Alvie in 1988 she sold her home and moved into an apartment and decided to make sewing her pastime. Opal began making baby quilts as well as sewing and crocheting. As her health began to fail she still continued to make baby quilts. She was a member of the sewing circle and the Friendship Club. She also loved to watch the Price is Right game show, soap operas, the Gaitherís sing, visiting with family and friends as well as spending countless hours with Cleo her sister in law and best friend.

Opal went to be with her Lord and Savior July 15, 2006 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years 2 months and 28 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands Raymond Alvah Tisher in October of 1943, Alvie Carter in April of 1988; two brothers, Olin Lee Kelso, Lloyd Eugene Kelso; one sister, Dorothy Mae Loggins; two grandsons Jeffrey R. Treece and Jeffrey Scott Tisher and a daughter in law Vicky Carter.

Survived by her daughter, Maxine Treece and husband Jim of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sons, Tom Tisher and wife Norma of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Alan Carter of Cleveland, Oklahoma; one brother, Billy Franklin Kelso of Medford, Oregon; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Kelso of Cleveland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
