Omar Floyd Horton

Funeral services for Omer Floyd Horton, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Dixie Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Omer was born on May 26, 1928 in Prue, Oklahoma. He was the son of Marion Floyd and Lillie May (Baker) Horton. As Omer was growing up he attended school in Calvin, Oklahoma. Following the completion of his education, Omer continued to reside in Calvin working for several local farmers. On September 12, 1950, Omer joined the United States Army. While serving his country during the Korean War, Omer received the following decorations and citations: Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star. He was also a part of the Company N 32nd Infantry Regiment. On November 6, 1951, Omer was honorably discharged and returned to the Cleveland, Oklahoma area. In 1952, Omer moved to Cleveland, Tennessee. While residing in Tennessee and attending Bible College he met the love of his life Anita G. Ranburger. The couple was united in marriage on May 2, 1953. Omer and Anita returned to Cleveland. While living in the area Omer was called to preach at several different churches in the area. Omer and Anita later moved to Kentucky. While living in Kentucky, Omer furthered his education and attended television repair school. In 1963, Omer and Anita moved their family to Blackwell, Oklahoma where he operated Gibble Gas and Kerr McGee gas stations in Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Oklahoma as well as Blackwell. In 1985, the couple moved to Cleveland where they have continued to reside. While living in Cleveland, Omer has been a ìHandymanî for many people in the area. In 2009, Omer retired from working daily. Omer loved working on old equipment. He enjoyed getting something that was thought of as unfixable and getting it working again. Omer also enjoyed raising goats, watching birds, building a fire in his fire pit and taking daily walks on his nature trail. Omer spent lots of time watching westerns on television. One thing most in life Omer was a man of God; as well as a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Omer went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 82 years eight months and 25 days. Survivors are his wife Anita of the home, four children Damon Horton of Braman, Oklahoma, Danny Floyd Horton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Diane Barrian of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Debra Joy Riley of Blackwell, Oklahoma; four brothers Willie Horton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jack Horton of Orlando, Florida, Damon Horton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Albert Horton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, four sisters Jewell Fairbanks of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ann Dickey of Rogers Arkansas, Nadine Eshelman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rose Jost of Evansville, Indiana; eight grandchildren, ten grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Marion Floyd Horton, mother Lillie May (Baker) Horton, two brothers Bill Horton, Otis Horton, two sisters Marie Merriman and Mary Jane ingram.
