Nora Jane Tatum

Nora Jane Tatum was born April 15, 1941 in Vian, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Virgil R. and Buloyah Brown. She was raised in Vian and attended school there until 1958. Nora then moved to Tulsa where she accepted employment in the linen department of St. John Medical Center and worked there for nearly six years. In 1964, Nora began working for St. Francis Hospital as a nurseís aide and was employed nearly eleven years. On February 7, 1964, Nora was united in marriage to Charles E. Tatum in Tahlequah. The couple made their home in Mannford for many years. While residing in Mannford, Nora was a longtime member of the Lakeview Christian Church. The couple was extremely patriotic and an American Flag could almost always be seen outside their home in Mannford. Nora accepted a position with the Mannford Public Schools in 1980 and worked in the Cafeteria for nearly twenty-six years before retiring in 2006. Charles preceded her in death on September 10, 2006 at the coupleís home in Mannford. Nora continued to reside in Mannford until recently when she relocated to Sand Springs. While residing in Sand Springs, Nora was a member of the Fisher Baptist Church. She loved to crochet and could often be found working concessions stands for all Mannford school events. Nora was known as a hard worker, great Mom and awesome friend. Nora passed from this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of seventy-two years, eleven months and twelve days. In addition to her husband, Nora was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Wesley and Ray; two sisters Roberta and Anna May; and two grandchildren Taylor Noel and Caleb Neal. She is survived by five children, Donald Dawes, Jennings, Oklahoma, Ricky Dawes of Mannford, Oklahoma, Buck Tatum of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Norma and Rick Hardy of Van Buren, Arkansas and Julia Poole of Glenpool, Oklahoma; one brother Charlie Brown of Vian, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Fisher Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Lynchard officiating. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Maramec, Oklahoma under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
