Nila Maxine Nichols was born November 8, 1924 in Blackburn, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Boyd and Nila Ann Jones. Maxine was raised an attended school in the Blackburn area.

She was married to Joseph Henry Nichols on September 1, 1941 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home west of Cleveland as Joe was employed by Kerr McGee Corporation. The couple had two sons, Joe Wayne and Robert which they raised in the Cleveland School System.

Joe preceded in her death on November 19, 1974. Maxine continued to reside at the family home, west of Cleveland, until 1988 when she moved to Belfry, Montana to be close to her brothers and sisters. Maxine recently returned to Cleveland in July 2003 to spend her remaining days in Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Maxine loved to read and especially enjoyed Western Novels by Zane Gray and Louis L' Amour. Her favorite past time, however, was spending time with her family, including her son, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

Maxine passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Hillcrest Specialty Hospital in Tulsa at the age of seventy-eight years, nine months and twenty-three days. In addition to her husband, Maxine was preceded in death by a son, Joe Wayne Nichols and a sister, Marie McFarland.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Robert Boyd and Belva Nichols, Kaw City, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Matthew Nichols, Washington D. C., Ryan Nichols, Dallas, Texas and Michael Nichols, Kaw City, Oklahoma; great granddaughter, Haley Nichols, Dallas, Texas; brother, Bryant Jones, Belfry, Montana; two sisters, Marian Webb, Belfry, Montana and Kitty Mundt, Helena, Montana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 5, 2003 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with Mike Southward officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
