Nellie O'Kief

Nellie Lenora Millsap OíKief, lifelong Hominy resident, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Southern Hill Nursing Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of ninety. Nellie was born on October 16, 1922 in Hominy, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Harvey Ray and Ova Mary (Smith) Thompson. Nellie was raised and attended school in Hominy. Prior to completing high school, Nellie was married to J. R. Millsap on January 15, 1939 in Hominy. The couple made their home in Hominy for a short time before moving to California for nearly a year. They returned to Hominy and had three children, Tommy, Gretta and Connie. Nellie worked as a nurseís aide at the Hominy Hospital for a while, and then assisted J. R. in the daily operation of the J. R. Millsap Grocery Store in Wynona for many years. Nellie was extremely proud and reflected often upon the nearly forty-nine years of marriage to J. R. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1986. Nellie was described by her family and friends as a generous, loving, friendly and family oriented lady who never seemed to meet a stranger. She could always strike up a conversation with whomever she met and generally ended up talking about her family which she loved dearly. Nellie enjoyed making dolls and made sure each grandchild had one. She also loved to fish and for many years could often be found fishing at the pond on the old Hominy Golf course. She was an excellent cook and shared her talents with all her family and friends. She was said to have made the best potato salad around. Having many sisters that lived in the Hominy area, Nellie was always enjoyed spending time with them and her nieces and nephews in addition to her two daughters and grandchildren. Millsap; husband, Clark OíKief; six sisters, Lottie Mae and Rosie Margaret, Helen Marie Adams, Hazel Ruth Trim, Ouida Lane Seaton and Juanita Darlene Dolan; and three brothers, John Burl, Willie and Willard Thompson.
