Muggyown Johnson

Muggyown Johnson, lifelong Terlton/Jennings area resident passed from this life on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his home near Jennings at the age of eighty-one. Muggyown was born in Terlton, Oklahoma on August 5, 1931. He was the son of Sliver Glenn and Modena (Wilcoxson) Johnson. He was raised and attended school in Terlton. He was named after the Mogollown Rim (pronounced Muggy-own) in the White Mountains of Arizona. Upon completion of his education, Muggyown continued to work in the family cattle ranching business which he continued to operate until the time of his death. As a rancher, Muggyown raised both cattle and buffalo. Muggyown was married to Lou Powell on June 1, 1962 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, Muggy and Lou established their home east of Hallett and in 1967 moved to their home south of Jennings where they continued to reside. Muggy was known for being able to fix about anything. On a elk hunting trip to Colorado, one of the men in the group broke his glasses and Muggy repaired them by melting a plastic comb and welding them together with the plastic and a metal can opener. At the age of seventeen he completely rebuilt the family hay baler after it had been partially destroyed in a fire. Nearly replace everything from parts around the farm and took it to a farm near Mannford and baled 750 square bales of hay. He always enjoyed traveling to Colorado and often recalled fond memories going with his family to California through the redwood forest. He loved and adored his two girls, Robyn and Roni and always ensured they had good cars to drive. He instilled his sense of adventure and outdoors in them and leaves a legacy of a true old time cattle rancher, hard worker, and loving father. Muggy also worked as an independent oil producer assisting with the operation of oil and gas well on his property and was looking forward to taking advantage of some of the new horizontal drilling technology to increase production on his land. Muggy could often be found at his ìofficeî at the Hallett convenience store. Lou preceded him in death on December 24, 2012 and is now reunited with the love of his life. In addition to his wife of fifty years, Muggy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Woodley Reece Johnson.
