Mildred L. Vincent

Mildred L. (Midge) Vincent was born May 4, 1929 in Jennings, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Isaac Thomas and Mandy A. (Teague) Rhodes. Midge was raised and attended school in Jennings, graduating from Jennings High School in 1947.

Upon graduation from high school, Midge attended Tulsa Business College where she received bookkeeping and accounting training. She was married to James A. Vincent on April 13, 1949 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Tulsa as James owned and operated the Sunoco Service Station on the corner of Denver and Brady for nearly forty-years. When the couple was first married, Midge worked as a bookkeeper for F&S Auto Parts and then later for the Warehouse Market at 10th and Elgin for many years.

In 1972, James and Midge purchased land near Silver City where they together operated the Little Beaver Ranch, raising cattle and other farm animals. Additionally, Midge worked closely with the Oklahoma State University, Division of Agriculture Sciences, Fruit and Nut Research Station, in maintaining a fruit orchard of nearly twelve hundred trees. Often horticulture students with the University would stop by the ranch and receive hands on training in fruit tree management. James preceded her in death on September 26, 1995.

After the death of her husband, Mildred continued to operate the ranch for a few year before moving to Grove, Oklahoma in 1999 to be near her sisters. In February 2006, Midge moved to Owasso to an assisted living facility and to be near her son and his family.

Midge was a hard working woman that loved providing for her family and friends. She learned at an early age to garden and can vegetables and she continued to enjoyed canning throughout her life. She enjoyed residing in the country and liked working with the farm animals. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Daniel Steele novels and also liked listening to country western music.

Mildred passed away on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the Sequoyah Pointe Living Center in Owasso, Oklahoma at the age of seventy-seven years, five months and nine days. In addition to her husband, Midge was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Linda Marie Rhodes, Thelma Bell and Betty Butler.

She is survived by her son and his wife, James A. and Sue Vincent, III of Owasso, Oklahoma; two grandsons, James Andrew Vincent of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and David Jarrett Vincent of Tulsa, Oklahoma; great granddaughter, Jayme Vincent of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; five sisters, Helen Myers of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Dixie Rhodes of Grove, Oklahoma, Mary Garner of Grove, Oklahoma, Juanita Burt of Grove, Oklahoma and Carol Mayfield, Owasso, Oklahoma; and a brother, John Rhodes of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
