Mickey Metheny

Mickey Allen Metheny was born on June 18, 1953 in Weleetka, Oklahoma. He was the son of Abner Marshall and Mary Lou (Neff) Metheny. At the age of three, Mickey moved with his family to Cleveland where he was raised and attended school. He graduated from Cleveland High School with the Class of 1972. While in high school, Mickey was an active participant in the Science Club, FFA, and both the basketball and baseball teams. He often expressed his fond memories of playing little league and American Legion baseball as his father, Ab was the coach.
Mickey had three children, Tara Lynne, Haley Bron and Bradley Allen. He resided for several years in the Norman area before returning to Cleveland in 2001. Mickey attended Barber College and was a licensed barber in the State of Oklahoma for nearly twenty-five years, recently retiring for health reasons from his shop in Cleveland.
Throughout his life, Mickey enjoyed playing pool, watching the University of Oklahoma Sooners football and basketball teams. He was also a Chicago Cub baseball fan and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball fan. He was extremely enthusiastic about watching sports and was elated when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.
He was described by his family and friends as a loyal and true friend with a slightly laid back attitude who was extremely easy to get along with. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marsha Brown; and a nephew, Jason Driskell.
Mickey passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of sixty-three. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Tara Lynne Metheny and Anthony Marshall of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Haley Bron Metheny and Marc De la Pena of Midland, Texas; a son, Bradley Allen Metheny of Midland, Texas; grandson, Aiden James Marshall; two sisters and their husbands, Lynne and Omar Jones of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Nancy and Jim Morgan of Cleveland; a brother-in-law, Richard Brown of Bristow, Oklahoma; numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Gene Black serving as celebrant. Following cremation, Mickey will be interred at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
