Mervin R. Floyd, Sr. passed from this life on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the age of 83 years nine months and thirteen days. Red was born on May 21, 1928, in Jennings, Oklahoma. He was the son of John Wesley and Etta Jane (Reed) Floyd. As a young man Red was raised in the Jennings area where he began school. He later graduated from Jennings High School in 1946. Red was soon united in marriage to Ruby Lee Baker in Jennings, Oklahoma on April 3, 1946. After the couple was united in marriage Red was employed with Parker Drilling and they established homes in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. After the birth of their oldest child M.R. Jr. they made their home in Odessa, Texas. Red gained employment with Treatalite Chemical Company in 1960. Several years later in 1965, Red and Ruby moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. At that time Red began working for the John Zink Company. In 1971, Red and Ruby moved to Mannford and he established FloydÃs Heating and Air. During his time in business Red had many customers in the Mannford and surrounding areas. Red also was a man of many traits including an endeavor into the oil business. He established MRCJ Oil Production which he and Ruby operated for many years. Following the death of Ruby in 2001, Red remained in Mannford until 2003. On October 18, 2003, Red was united in marriage to Dorothy Dean Troxell at the First Baptist Church in Mannford. They made their home in Tulsa where he has continued to reside until November of 2011, when he returned to Mannford. Red loved to spend his time with his family and grandchildren. He also loved to go to the lake camping and fishing. Red felt that work was an essential part of life and providing for his family. Later in life Red, enjoyed spending his time on the riding lawn mower for hours at a time. Survivors are his wife Dorothy of the home; four children M.R. Floyd and his wife Lynda of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Nancy Steckle and her husband John of Greece, New York, George Floyd and his wife Robin of Houston, Texas, Monte Floyd and his wife Angela of Mannford, Oklahoma; daughter in law Londa Floyd of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother Vernon Floyd of San Angelo, Texas; eight grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Red was preceded in death by his parents John and Etta Jane Floyd, wife Ruby Lee Floyd (Baker), one son Roger Floyd and one grandson Jonathon Swinford, nine siblings Alfred, Betty, Nellie, John, Donald, Charlie, Earl "Doc", Merle, Ethel. Funeral services for Red will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Mannford, Oklahoma with Rev. James Beck officiating. Burial will follow beside his first wife Ruby in the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
