Funeral services for Melvin Vadonis Leake, life long resident of Cleveland will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the sanctuary of the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dan Edens officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Melvin was born November 24, 1918 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He was the son William and Mary Ellen (Corneilius) Leake. As a young child Melvin began his education in Cleveland where he later graduated high school with the Class of 1936. After graduation from high school, Melvin moved to California and began working with his brother. After some time passed and the onset of World War II, Melvin joined the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the U.S. Air Force Melvin was stationed in Florida and was an airplane mechanic. After a honorable discharge Melvin returned to Cleveland, Oklahoma and gained employment at the local post office. He worked part time until he finally reached fulltime status. Melvin was the assistant postmaster when he retired in 1974. After retirement Melvin enjoyed spending time at the lake. He also took time to fish and travel with his wife Vivian to many places. He was also a very faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. Melvin was a former Board Member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Melvin passed from this life to meet his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years. Survivors are his devoted and loving wife of over 65 years Vivian Leake, one daughter, Bonnie Chandler and her husband Mike of College Station, Texas; one sister in law Virginia Hopkins and her husband Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two grandchildren Stacey Moore of Celina, Texas, Jonathan Chandler of Greenville, Texas; one great grandson Jaxxon Moore; three nephews Harold Leake, Leonard Leake, William Leake all of Cleveland, Oklahoma as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his mother and father Melvin was preceded in death by two bothers Ora Leonard and Walter Leake.
