Melissa Dawn Cupp was born June 4, 1970 in Hominy, Oklahoma to John, Jr. and Sandra Ann (Blue) Woods. Melissa was raised and received her education in Hominy graduating with the Class of 1990.
After high school Melissa moved to Tonkawa and began her higher education at Northern Oklahoma College. She remained in Tonkawa until she obtained her Associates Degree. She then began attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma pursuing a degree in Psychology.
Melissa was united in marriage to Michael Eugene Cupp in Hominy on May 21, 1994. Melissa and Michael made their home in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and then returned to Hominy in 1995. In 1999 they purchased their present home. Melissa gained employment with the City of Hominy as a clerk in 1995 where she was currently employed. Melissa returned to finish her higher education in January of 2004 and graduated in May of 2004 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology to fulfill a life long goal.
Melissa was an avid fan of Mickey Mouse as well as Michael Jackson. She loved to visit Disney World and traveling on vacations with her family. Melissa had a kind heart to any stray animal making sure that they had a home.
Melissa passed away July 12, 2004 in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 34 years 1 month and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her father John.
Survived by her husband, Michael Cupp of the home; daughter, Jaden Nicole Cupp, of the home; mother, Sandra Woods of Fairfax, Oklahoma; grandmother, Betty Blue of Hominy, Oklahoma; siblings Candy Gibson of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; John Franklin Woods of Kansas; Anthony Woods of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Chris Woods of Kansas; Martha Woods of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; James Woods of North Carolina; Ian Michael Woods of Norman, Oklahoma as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 16, 2004 at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Hominy with services officiated by Rev. Don Lehman and Pastor Bud Tibbles. Interment will follow at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
