Funeral services for Mary Margaret Carroll will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Western Heights Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland under the supervision of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Mary was born May 14, 1940 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Woodrow and Edna (Sears) Garrett. Mary moved with her family at an early age to Tulsa where she received her education; attending Mark Twain and Whittier and Grover Cleveland Middle School, graduating from Tulsa Central High School in 1958. Mary was married to Dale Carroll on June 20, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Tulsa and then moved to Cleveland in 1974. Mary accepted employment as a sales associate with Wal-Mart in Cleveland, shortly after it opened in the early 1980Ãs. She later began a career as a caretaker for individuals with developmental disabilities with the Pawnee Country Workshop and then for the Gatesway Foundation for nearly ten years and then for the Community Service Center. Mary had an incredibly giving spirit. She always put others needs above her own. Over the years, she became a second mother and grandmother to many children. Mary had three children of her own Dale, II, Michael and Melissa, but there are numerous people who mourn her passing as they would their own mother or grandmother. She especially enjoyed hearing her grandchildren laugh. Her hobbies included reading and sewing. Mary passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of sixty-eight years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale Carroll, II on March 17, 2004; and two sisters, Lorraine Damron and Gwendolyn Brooks. She is survived by her husband, Dale Carroll of the home, two children, Mike Carroll of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Melissa Carroll of Cleveland, Oklahoma; brother, Woodrow Garrett, Jr. of Buford, Georgia; sister, Rosa Padgett of Claremore, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Donald Brooks of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Deanna, Nicki and Shannon Carroll. Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Damron, Sr., James Damron, Tony Brooks, Danny Damron, Craig Filby and John Filby; honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Carroll, Bill Filby, Eric Sheets, A. J. Sheets, Brandon Damron, Kenny Damron, Jr., Wayne Filby, Randy Brooks, Greg Darmron and Marc Garrett.
