Mary Lou was born February 16,1934, in Hominy, OK, the daughter of Alfred Yarnell and Olive (O' Donnell) Wilson. Mary Lou began grade school in Hominy at Mullins Elementary and later moved to Tulsa and attended Whitter school where she was active playing violin and winning the spelling bee championship. Her education continued at Horace Mann junior high school where many lifelong friendships were established and also where she played violin in the orchestra and quartet at church. Mary Lou graduated from Central High School in Tulsa with the class of 1952, completing coursework in Business Education. She met Andrew Cody, III during his time working for the Air Force stationed in Tulsa. They were married in Hominy on March 7, 1953 where they later established their home. Mary Lou accepted employment as the secretary to the superintendent of Hominy Public Schools and held the position for 33 years. It was during this time that a group of folks at the Presbyterian Church in Hominy helped her expand and utilize her music ability by singing, which began a long career of solo work for weddings, funerals, and choirs. She joined the main choir for the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra. After retiring from H.P.S. in '92 she enjoyed traveling with Andrew. She later went back to work for Hominy Schools and began a part-time position in Alternative Education to which she was a current employee, totaling 52 years of employment with Hominy Public Schools. Mary Lou was an active member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hominy and a volunteer for Catholic Charities.
She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, and proud grandmother who was unequivocally devoted to her family. Her support for her loved ones was absolute, attending countless events, celebrations, and other life milestones for her grandchildren. Mary Lou exemplified the meaning of unconditional love and respect throughout her 87 years. Mary Lou will be greatly missed.
A warm hearted matriarch who enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and talented seamstress who lovingly crafted quilts, clothes, and dresses. The environment of warmth, compassion, and love she created and lived by will be carried on by her loved ones for generations to come.
