Mary Katherine McCabe, 79, resident of Cleveland and former resident of Lindsay, Oklahoma passed from this life, Monday, January 21, 2008. Katherine was born to Vera Pearl and Toney Adams on January 14, 1929 in Cleveland, Oklahoma; where she was raised. She was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland. Katherine and her mother raised funds for the first church while her father helped construct the building after his regular work hours.
Husband, children and God were very important to her. She was married to Kenneth Ira McCabe of Osage on March 29, 1946. Their life together lead them to Lindsay where Katherine was very involved in her children's lives as Band Secretary, PTA president, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Club Scout leader, and various Garvin County women's organizations.
Most people relax when their children are raised, but Kenneth and Katherine had the call of the Lord on their lives and after attending Rhema Bible College for two years they found themselves taking the role of Pastor and wife of the Lindsay Christian Fellowship Church which they founded.
After retiring, they returned to Cleveland where they became active with the First Assembly of God Church until their son, Stanley became pastor of the New Hope Fellowship Church in Tulsa. Katherine has enjoyed the people and fellowship of each church.
Katherine is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Kenneth of the home; five children and their spouses, Linda and Allan Zwirn of Wheaton, Illinois, Stanley and Marie McCabe of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Le Ann and Perry Hanner of Belle Vista, Arkansas, Rhonda and Gary Wafford of Mustang, Oklahoma and Ronald and Vicki McCabe of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Connie and Frank Horine of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Helen and Bob Hooper of Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was preceded by both parents, Toney H. and Vera Pearl Adams; two sisters, Eula Mae Arnold and Charlotte Griffith; as well as a brother, Melvin Adams.
The funeral service will be held at the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland at 508 West Miami at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 25, 2008. Pastor Dan Edens and Pastor Stanley McCabe will conduct the service. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
