Mary K. York was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to nearly every person that crossed her path in life. Her life touched so many others and like ripples in the ocean it's difficult to see how far the ripples have gone. But her very presence influenced the course of life of everyone she came in contact with and had a profound effect on many. That influence will be forever remembered as strong and steady and will remain with the lives she touched forever and is a living presence. Her compassion and generosity extended to anyone in need and was evident in her daily life.
Mary was born May 25, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of George and Helen (Bowe) Wilson. Mary was raised and attended school in Tulsa, graduating from Will Rogers High School in 1955. Upon completion of her education, Mary accepted employment with a physician in Tulsa, assisting in the daily operation of his medical practice.
Mary was married to Otto Leon York, shortly after his honorable discharge for the United States Marine Corp, on July 28, 1957 in Gainesville, Texas. The couple made their initial home in Tulsa for nearly twelve years where they had four sons, Steve, Keith, Brad and John. The family then relocated to Liberal, Kansas for a while before moving to Casper, Wyoming. The family then returned to Oklahoma and their daughter, Angie was born in Custer. While in Custer, Mary was employed for many years in the school cafeteria. In 1977, Otto and Mary purchased and moved to their home west of Sand Springs below the Keystone Dam.
Leaning on the knowledge that Otto had obtained working in the gas and oil measurement field; the couple established their own business, Meter Provers in 1979. Mary has served as President of the company, also known as MPI, throughout the past nearly forty years.
Mary and Otto loved fishing and especially enjoyed spending time on the Arkansas River below Keystone Dam together. She was an amazing cook and was known for being able to make something delicious out of nothing. Some of her favorite recipes included pepper steak, chicken and noodles and an amazing egg dish. The 4th of July was one of her favorite holidays and she thoroughly enjoyed having the family together to celebrate. The enjoyed playing the piano and one of her favorite musical selections was the Sound of Music. Mary rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune and especially like watching Fox News. She was a member of the St Patrick Catholic Church in Sand Springs.
Otto preceded her in death on Saturday, July 7, 2007. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Wilson; and two sisters, Georgia Darnell and Kay Wilson. She is survived by four sons and their wives, Steve and Jill York of Casper, Wyoming, Keith and Gina York of Casper, Wyoming, Brad and Misti York of Bloomfield, New Mexico and John and D'Ann York of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter, Angie Pace of Sand Spring, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, her little dog Honey; and numerous other family and friends who will mourn her passing.
Mary passed from this life at her home near Sand Springs on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the age of eighty-one years. She will be remembered for her loving and caring nature and the support she provided to her family throughout her lifetime. Always being there for them in any endeavor they pursued especially during her children's school years. They will remember her always telling them, "Love you, Love you, Love you," and 'I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."
The family will celebrate her life at a private ceremony and she will be interred next to her husband, Otto at the New Prue Cemetery.
