Mary Frances Hill

Mary Frances Hill, longtime resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years old. Mary was born on June 14, 1928, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert Floyd and Jessie (Dampf) Ditto. Mary was raised and received her education in Cleveland where she later graduated with the Class of 1946, from Cleveland High School. Mary was later united in marriage to the love of her life Jay L. Hill on February 27, 1947 in Russell, Kansas. The two established their home in Cleveland, Oklahoma where they raised their two sons Robert and Richard. Mary enjoyed being a homemaker and also worked at Bayouth’s Department Store as well as the secretary at the First Christian Church. Mary was the secretary for over 20 years when she retired and was honored with having Mary Hill Day following her retirement.


Mary was a devoted and lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Cleveland. She also had many other activities she was a part of including the birthday club, playing bridge on Thursdays as well as being active in the community with civic groups. Mary enjoyed going to the state capital and participating in events. Mary enjoyed helping others and was a very devoted mother to her family who she loved immensely.


Survivors are her two sons, Robert Jay of Cleveland and Richard L. and his wife, Carri Hill of Norman, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Angela Dawn Stach of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Ryan Lucas Hill and Rebecca L. Hill, both of Douglassville, Pennsylvania; one great granddaughter Destini Hill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great-great grandson Gunner as well as numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jay in 2008.


Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the First Christian Church with David Logsdon officiating. The cremated remains will be interred at a later date in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary to the Jay C. Byers Memorial Library or to the Cleveland Meals on Wheels. Friends may share a memory with the family on Mary’s page online at www.chapman-black.com.
