Mary Elizabeth Whited passed from this life on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of 82 years, six months and nineteen days. Mary was born on October 25, 1931, near Wynona, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Jeff and Della (Guffey) Powell. As a young girl Mary was raised and received her education in Mound Valley located West of Hominy. On March 1, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life Kenneth Whited. The couple established their initial home in Mound Valley before moving to Hominy in 1956. In the early 1970Ãs Mary obtained her LPN certification and worked at the Hominy Nursing Home. Mary also worked at the Hominy Hospital for many years. At the age of 50, Mary fulfilled a lifelong goal by earning her GED. Mary loved being around her family. Her grandchildren meant the most to Mary and always attended their school functions. She always had her door open as well as food prepared for anyone who showed up. Mary and Kenneth helped raise several of his siblings due to the fact his parents passed away at a very young age. Family reunions were held yearly at her home and were always well attended. Mary seemed to be the one who would without fail be the nurse for everyone in her family. The most important part in MaryÃs life was her family that she loved dearly. Survivors are her three children K. Darrell and wife Lesa Whited of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Roger and wife Sue Whited of Hominy, Oklahoma, Carolyn and husband Greg Powell of Hominy, Oklahoma; one sister Imogene Grof of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren D. J. Whited and his wife Christal of Hominy, Oklahoma, Amy Whited of Hominy, Oklahoma, Andrea Powell of Hominy, Oklahoma, Stephanie Whited of New York, New York, Ian Whited of Tulsa, Oklahoma, K. Shawn Whited of Tyler, Texas; seven great-grandchildren Madison Smith of Hominy, Oklahoma, Hunter Smith of Hominy, Oklahoma, Griffin Neafus of Hominy, Oklahoma, Kennedy Neafus of Hominy, Oklahoma, Juliette Whited of Hominy, Oklahoma, Jada Whited of Hominy, Oklahoma, Vera Whited of Hominy, Oklahoma. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in the death by her husband Kenneth Whited on March 13, 2004; four sisters Maxine Swindell, Dorothy Powell, Allene Martin, Macie Collum, one brother Lawrence "Dee" Powell and a granddaughter Julie Smith. Church Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, May 19, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma with Rev. Mark Formby officiating. Burial will follow in the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
