Mary Elizabeth Kelso, lifelong Cleveland resident, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home. She was eighty-three. Mary was born on November 3, 1927 on the Kelso family farm, near Cleveland, Oklahoma in rural Pawnee County. She was the daughter of Ernest Lee and Bessie Alvera (Hansard) Kelso. She was one of six children raised on the farm south of Cleveland. At an early age Mary was diagnosed with a disease that effected her tongue which inhibited her ability to speak. Throughout her life she was taken care of by her mother until she moved to the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home in 1982. For many years, Mary and Bessie resided together at the nursing home. The only other caretaker that Mary had throughout her life was Margaret Smith and her wonderful friends at Cleveland Manor. Mary enjoyed all types of music and could often be seen in the nursing home listening to music. Although she required special care in her life, her love for others could be seen and recognized through her smile. It was said by many that Mary would brighten their day. She is survived by a niece and her husband, Maxine and Jim Treece of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a nephew and his wife, Tom and Norma Tisher of Muskogee, Oklahoma; a nephew, Alan Carter of Cleveland, Oklahoma; a brother, Billy Franklin Kelso of Medford, Oregon and numerous other relatives and friends who lives she touched. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Lee and Bessie Alvera Kelso; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Loggins and Opal Nadine Carter; and two brothers, Olin Lee Kelso and Lloyd Eugene Kelso. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Gene Black officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
