Services celebrating the life of M. Lee Brower will be held at 2 pm Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Cleveland First United Methodist Church. Lee, 58, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Lee was born Oct. 18, 1952 in Hominy to Jessey Dale and Jacqueline (Roller) Brower. He was reared in Cleveland and attended Cleveland Public Schools, graduating in 1970. While in school, Lee was an accomplished athlete, lettering in every sport Cleveland High School offered at that time. At the conclusion of his junior year, he was recognized with the Outstanding Athlete award, which is traditionally reserved for graduating seniors. Lee was the first student to earn this award as a junior since it was awarded to future Heisman Trophy winner Billy Vessels when he was a junior at Cleveland High School in the late 1940s. In 1972 Lee went to work as a member of the night crew for the Sand Springs Railway. He worked there for 10 years before accepting employment with Indian Electric Cooperative. During his nine years with IEC, he worked in the office services and engineering departments. In 1991, Lee returned to the railway, where he worked as a switchman and back-up engineer until he retired in 2009. While working at IEC Lee met Kay Lynn Rabbitt, formerly of Okmulgee, and they were married in 1988. During Lee's life he never lost his interest in sports or his love of competition. He was an avid golfer, and fan of OSU athletics. He proudly supported his daughters as they competed in softball, basketball, soccer and tennis. He also enjoyed sharing his daughter Amanda's nine years in FFA raising and showing hogs and Longhorn cattle. Lee was a life-long member of the Cleveland First Christian Church, a past president of the Keystone Golf Club, and a former active member of the Cleveland Ag Boosters. He was preceded in death by his father. Lee is survived by a loving family consisting of his wife Kay, and daughter Amanda of the home; daughter Lenee Condray and husband Travis, of Mannford; mother Jackie Brower; and brother Mike Brower, both of Cleveland; mother-in-law Marilyn Rabbitt, Okmulgee; and several extended family members. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in Lee's name.
