Marjorie Chainey Hazlip

Marjorie Chainey Hazlip was born October 6, 1915 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Andrew and Ora Beatrice Chainey. She moved at an early age with her family to Webb City and then to Hominy where she attended most of her schooling. Marjorie graduated from Hominy High School in 1934.

She was married to Albert Otis Hazlip on April 7, 1937 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home near Keifer, Oklahoma until 1959 when they moved to Sapulpa. In 1960, the couple moved their family to Fort Morgan, Colorado when Otis was transferred there while working for the Union Oil Company. Upon Otis' retirement in 1977 the couple moved to Cleveland. Otis preceded her in death on June 6, 1994. Although Marjorie was a member of the First Christian Church in Hominy, she attended the Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland for many years. Marjorie devoted her life to her husband and two sons. She enjoyed providing cooking and homemaking skills to them during their years together. In addition to cooking, she especially enjoyed sewing. She continued to reside in Cleveland until 2000 when she moved to Coweta to be near her son and his wife. She later moved to Broken Arrow in 2003 when for health reasons she required additional care.

Marjorie passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at the Touch of Love Care Center in Broken Arrow at the age of eighty-nine years, six months and twenty-two days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, David and Paul Chainey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 4, 2005 at the Western Height Baptist Church with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearer are Jack Hazlip, Jeff Hazlip, Craig Hazlip, Charles Bates, JoAnn Hazlip and Joe Williams.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Jeff and JoAnn Hazlip of Coweta, Oklahoma and Jack and Millie Hazlip of Sterling, Colorado; four grandchildren, Andrew Hazlip of Wichita, Kansas, Brian Hazlip of Wichita, Kansas, Craig Hazlip of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Jennifer Bates of Greeley, Colorado; eight great-grandchildren, a brother, Theodore Chainey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Geraldine Reid of Sun City, California.
