Marjelen Olita Mitts

Marjelen Olita Whitehorn Mitts was born November 6, 1934 in Hominy, Oklahoma; the daughter of Thomas Whitehorn and Lucille Belle (Martin) Whitehorn. She was proud of her Native American heritage as a member of the Osage Tribe and the Deer Clan. Olita was raised and attended school at Horace Mann Elementary School in Hominy and then later attended the St. Louis Academy. She attended high school at Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas. Olita was united in marriage to Wilson E. Mitts on December 24 and to this union was blessed with four children, Wilson, Stephen, Joyce and April. Olita worked for many years in the housekeeping department of the Mayo Hotel in Tulsa and later as in the cafeteria of St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Olita was known by her friends as "Dada", but as time went by her grandchildren called her Gaga as they were confused since she was referred to as grandma Dada and they called her by that name. Which made Olita the original ìGagaî She loved to travel with her mother, children and grandchildren. She loved to attend bullfights in Mexico and the horse racing events in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Additionally, enjoyed bingo and was a pretty consistent close winner always lacking one number. She also liked to watch the Young and the Restless and especially liked the character, Victor Newman. Another past time was going to the movie theatre and eating popcorn. Gaga as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her loved to spend time with them traveling and going out to eat; an almost weekly event on Wednesday. Olita was a longtime and faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hominy. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend Mass or any church function until her health made it hard for her to attend. She left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa surrounded by her children, grandchildren and sister. Olita is survived by her children, Wilson "Cowboy: Mitts, Stephen "Sam" Mitts, Joyce "Tina" and husband, Bob Cox and April Mitts, all of Hominy; grandchildren, Krystal Bashaw, Shannon Mitts, Jamie Jones, Justin Cox, Lindey Mitts, Kirsey Mitts, Set Cale, Lee Mitts; great-grandchildren, Baron Myers, Jalyn Bradford, Jason Bradford, Kendra Bashaw, Lola Jones and Cal Jones; sister, Winona Whitehorn; and last but not least her faithful friend and companion, "Scout"; numerous other cousins, friends and family that will mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents and the father who raised her Lee Robedeaux; brother, Walter Charles "Sonny" Whitehorn; an infant son; and brothers, Tommy Whitehorn and John Whitehorn. Pallbearers will include Wilson Mitts, Sam Mitts, Justin Cox, Bob Cox, Seth Cale and Jake Waller.
