Marie Alma Blackwell

Marie Alma Blackwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2005 at Oak Dale Manor Nursing Home in Sand Springs at the age of ninety-eight years, seven months and six days.

Marie was born on October 9, 1906 in Dodge City, Kansas to William Sanford and Alla Francis (Rogers) Blackburn. The family moved to Guymon and lived there a short time till her father died when she was two years old. Her mother moved the family to Melvern, Arkansas to be near her father to help her take care of the six children. Her early childhood was spent in Zack, Arkansas.

The family later moved to Cleveland where she married Ralph Connelly in 1925. They had one daughter, Lorena Florence Wagner of Newberry Springs, California. A few years after her divorce from Mr. Connelly, Marie was married to Joe Sidney Blackwell on June 23, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple was married for nearly forty-six years until the death of Mr. Blackwell on June 21, 1994.

Marie held a lot of different jobs in her life. She worked in people's home, cooked for the Osage Indian Pow Wow's in Hominy, as well as, working for Brown Dunkin's in Tulsa as a seamstress.

Her favorite pastime was piecing quilts and watching and taking care of her cats. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she attended regularly until for health reasons was no longer able to go.

In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Blackburn; three sisters, Ival Colburn, Viola House and Ruth Arkinson; grandson, Travis Wagner; granddaughter, Philana Colosimo and her son-in-law, Phillip Wagner, Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Lorena Wagner, brother, William Sanford Blackburn, nine grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, twenty great great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 20, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. David Head officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
