Maybel Imogene Baker, of Hallett, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Cleveland Area Hospital at the age of 87 years, four months and twenty five days. Imogene was born March 10, 1925 in Monroe, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Walter C. and Mabel (Bobenkalman) Bell. As a young lady Imogene began her schooling in Louisiana and later moved with her family to Tucson, Arizona. Soon after graduating from high school Imogene returned to Louisiana. During this time she met the love of her life Ernest Robert Baker. The two were united in marriage on August 20, 1945, in Monroe, Louisiana. Soon after their marriage the couple moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and later to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1952. Imogene and Ernest remained in Carlsbad until 1976, when they returned to the Tulsa area. In 1978, the couple moved to Hallett, Oklahoma where she has continued to reside. Imogene enjoyed painting, reading as well as classical music. She also kept a daily journal throughout her life which will be very special for her family to read. Her most memorable trip was when she went to Europe and was able to tour the Vatican. Imogene was strong and devoted to her Catholic faith. She was also the ultimate mother who dearly loved each and every one of her kids and grandchildren. Imogene loved to be outside and planted flowers everywhere around her home. She is described as an ìawesome Cajun cook.î Imogene also loved to take rides in the car during rain showers. Survivors are her three sons, Richard Baker of Edgewood, New Mexico, Raymund Baker of Roswell, New Mexico, Ronald Baker of Hallett, Oklahoma; four daughter Sarah Rice of Lubbock, Texas, Kathleen Gonzalez of Lubbock, Texas, Margaret Winsett of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Regina Baker of Hallett, Oklahoma, sister Virginia Tezar of Tucson, Arizona, nineteen grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends that will mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter C. Bell and Mabel Bell, husband Ernest Baker, one son Robert Baker, three brothers W.C., Lawrence and Joseph Bell. Chapel Services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Father Jovita Okonkwo of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sapulpa officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery in Hallett, Oklahoma under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
