Luther Gower was born January 13, 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jack Edgar and Juanita Gower. Luther was raised and received his education in Tulsa,

Shortly after completion of his education, Luther was inducted into the service of his country in the United States Army on October 25, 1967. After serving honorably for nearly two years during the Vietnam War, Luther was transferred to the United States Army Reserve where he completed his military obligation.

After his discharge from active duty, Luther returned to Tulsa where he worked for a rubber company for short time before he began a career as a truck driver. Luther was married to Mary Boatright on February 6, 1970 in Tulsa, Oklahoma The couple made their initial home in Tulsa and later moved to Cleveland in 1999.

Luther was a member of the Church of Christ. His hobbies included latch hooking, fishing and mostly spending time with his family. Luther passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at his home in Cleveland at the age of sixty years and twenty-nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Gower; and two grandchildren, Donald Self and Luther Wayne Gower.

Luther is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Mary of the home; two stepchildren, Bobby Self of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Allen Self of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two children, Luther Gene Gower of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Annetta Stidham of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four adopted grandchildren, Sammy Gower, Donna Gower and Billy Gower, all of the home; and Derrick Murphy of Centrahoma, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Stony Capehart officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
