Lurene Rose Bivin departed this life on July 7, 2014 in Stroud, Oklahoma. She was a resident of the Stroud Health Care Center in Stroud. Lurene was born October 10, 1920 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Gladys Guffy and Rollin Murray Rose. She was raised in the home of her grandparents, Effie Swan and Ward Guffy in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Lurene graduated in 1938 from Cleveland High School, where she was a four year honor student, a member of the ìCî Club (tennis), a Drum Major, and editor of the ìTigerís Taleî. She married J. C. Bivin on April 19, 1938. They had celebrated sixty-four years of marriage before he died in 2002. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Families of Oklahoma, First Families of Tennessee, and numerous other genealogical and historical societies, Lurene was an experienced genealogist and writer. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League holding the coveted rank of Life Master. She was a member of the First Christian Church since the age of twelve, she taught a class of fifth grade boys and girls for twelve years. Lurene is survived by her son, David and his wife Josa of Jerusalem, Israel, her son, Steve and his wife Julie of Stroud, Oklahoma, her son, Stan and his wife Susan of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and her son, Phil and his wife Martha of Mountain Home, Arkansas, seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. At her request, simple graveside services were held in Woodland Cemetery, Cleveland, Oklahoma on July 11, 2014. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Guffy-Swan section that contains the graves of her mother, her grandparents, her great-grandparents and many aunts and uncle. She requested that these words of an anonymous writer be read at her service. ìThere are only two lasting bequests we can give our childrenóone is roots, the other, wings.
