Louise Draughon

Louise Draughon, lifelong Cleveland resident and business woman, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of ninety-four years, eleven months and twenty-eight days.

Louise was born in Piedmont, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Joseph Lee and Azle Lee Meyer. She moved with her family at an early age to Cleveland, where she was raised and attended school. Louise graduated from Cleveland High School in 1926.

Upon graduation from high school, Louise attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater for a couple of years. Upon her return to Cleveland, she attended Tulsa Beauty College and then began a career of over fifty years in the hair styling business. She owned and operated Louise's Beauty Shop in the front of her home for many years. After her retirement in 1978, Louise remained active in the business by leasing her shop to other operators until the late 1980's.

Louise was a member of the First Christian Church in Cleveland but also attended the First Baptist Church for many years. When she was not styling hair, Louise loved to keep busy by sewing and knitting. She also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

She will be remembered and missed by many friends and family including, five grandchildren, Marge Candler of Cushing, Rev. George Brock, III of Cushing, Barry Draughon of Broken Arrow, Carla Myers of Bixby and Lisa Elledge of Cleveland; seven great-grandchildren, Chantz Candler, Chase Candler, Joshua Brock, Jacob Brock, Jordan Brock, Austin Elledge and Ian Draughon of Broken Arrow; two great great-grandchildren, Carson and Caden Candler; a brother, Alfred L. Buck Meyer of Santa Ana, California; sister, Edna Lou Peterman of Cushing; daughter-in-law, Robbie Draughon of Cleveland and a son-in-law, Rev. George Brock, Jr. of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Josephine Meyer and Opal Skinner; son, Ira Joe Draughon, and a daughter, Virginia Brock.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel in Cleveland with Rev. George Brock, III officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
