Louie C. Treece

Louie C. Treece was born November 4, 1930 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was the son of Samuel Oscar and Ora Elizabeth Treece. He moved with his family as a young child to Searcy County, Arkansas and attended his early schooling there, The family then moved to Cleveland where Louie completed his education.

Upon completion of his schooling, Louie worked in the oilfields in Northeastern Oklahoma as a roughneck, roustabout and driller. He was married to Florence Edith Martin on November 22, 1948 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Cleveland and then moved to Texas City, Texas in 1954, where Louie accepted employment with the Texas City Refinery. The couple raised their three children, Meredith, Steven and Michael in Texas City. Louie worked in numerous capacities during his tenure with the refinery, retiring in 1993 as chief operator.

Louie was an active member of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He served in numerous offices in the Corsicana IOOF Lodge including, District Grand Master on three occasions. He was also active in the Rebecca Lodge in Corsicana.

After his retirement, Louie and Edith returned to Cleveland. He was an faithful member of the First Baptist Church and the Adult C Sunday School Class. Louie loved to read western short stories and had an extensive library of Louis L'amour and Long Arm books. He enjoyed watching major league baseball and spent countless hours working crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. He also liked to travel. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his family and was known to always have a story to tell.

Louie passed away on Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of seventy-two years, four months and seventeen days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Smith Mulvihill; and a grandson, Brandon Treece.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of the home; daughter, Meredith Ann and Felix Bradford of Johnson City, Texas; two sons, Steven Louis and Glenda Treece of Houston, Texas; and Michael Jayson and Georgette Treece of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Samuel O. and Demoya Treece of Salina, Kansas; Robert B. and Betty Jo Treece of Cleveland, Oklahoma; and James Ray and Maxine Treece of Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 24, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
