Loron Eugene Silvers

Loron Eugene Silvers went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of eighty-five years. Loron was born April 11, 1925 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He was the son of Edward Lee and Martha Ruth (Armstrong) Silvers. Loron grew up on the family farm near Blackburn and attended school there. Upon completion of his education, Loron continued to assist the family on the farm until he was inducted into the service of his country in the United States Army for his first enlistment on June 30, 1943. While serving in World War II Private Silvers was awarded the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal for service in Northern France and Germany. He was released from active duty on October 15, 1945 with a service connected disability. Upon his discharge, Loron returned to Pawnee County in Oklahoma and accepted employment as a roustabout and rig builder for Johnson Oil and Refinery in Cleveland. He returned to active duty at the start of the Korean War on February 3, 1949 serving nearly two years in Korea. During this enlistment, Private Silvers was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and the Bronze Star. Upon his honorable discharge from his second enlistment from the United States Army, Loron returned to Oklahoma and was married to Joy Ann Dorrough on March 24, 1952 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. The couple resided in the Broken Arrow area most of their married life, raising four children, Joseph, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Joanna. After his marriage to Joy Ann, Loron began a career as a masonry contractor and home builder. The couple actually worked together on many home projects through the years as Loron would build the houses and Joy would use her talents as an interior designer to transform them into homes. They built many home throughout the Broken Arrow and Tulsa area. Loron was described by his daughters as a faithful Christian who was loving, big-hearted and very forgiving; although he could be somewhat definitive in his beliefs and a bit hard headed. He loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and the activities associated with it including hunting, watching and observing birds; especially martins and hummingbirds. He had numerous bird houses and hummingbird feeders throughout his yard. He was a bible scholar and spent a significant amount of time studying the bible and applying Godís word to his life. His presence on earth will be missed but his reunion in Heaven is to be celebrated. Loron is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Larry York of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Joanna and Vernon Nix of Claremore, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Adam York and wife, Misty, Amie Parsons and husband Scott, Jason Nix, Billy Williams, Laura Silvers-Chase, Susan Donnelly, Diana Tidwell and husband David. He has twelve great grandchildren, Zackary, Mary, Sarah, Jon and Abbie Parsons, Joseph and Addilynn York, Aedn and Daxon Silvers-Chase, Nevaeh Tidwell, Amy and Mallory Williams. Loron is also survived by a sister, Mary Irlee Amos of Ennis, Texas and two nephews, Terry and Tommy Amos. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Blackburn Cemetery with Rev. Carlton Stokes officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans of Foreign War .
