Loretta Mable Rogers, formerly of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the age of 99 years old.
Loretta was born December 14, 1917, in Canadian County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of John Thomas and Lena Dingle Crothers. As a young girl, Loretta grew up in the Oklahoma City area where she received her education. Following the completion of her studies, Loretta had to help her family make ends meet and began working at a very young age. Loretta was united in marriage to Lawrence Virgil Rogers on October 1, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They soon moved to Jal, New Mexico where they remained for many years. They later returned to Oklahoma and moved near Nelagoney. In the late 1950’s Loretta and Virgil moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma. During her time in Cleveland Loretta worked at Ben Franklin as a clerk. Following the death of Virgil, Loretta later moved to Sand Springs to be closer to her daughter where she has continued to reside.
Loretta was a very good seamstress, who loved to read and watch the game show Jeopardy. She was also an excellent cook. Loretta was a former active member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Survivors are her two children Dixie Trotter of Sargent, Nebraska, Charlotte Wells and her husband John of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; three grandchildren Darla Belgum of Lincoln, Nebraska, Darren Reese Valdez, Alaska, John Wells of Mannford, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Virgil in 1989, three brothers Jim, John and Al Crothers; two sisters Ruby Byrd and Betty Jo Illge.
Funeral services at will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Morton officiating. Following the services burial will conclude in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
