Lorene Stearman

Lorene May Stearman, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the age of 86 years, one month and eighteen days. Lorene was born September 5, 1927, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Floyd W. and Laura Eathel (McCabe) Dixon. As a young girl Lorene, grew up in Cleveland were she began her education. Following the completion of her education Lorene was united in marriage to Lionel Ray Stearman on August 8, 1942, in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to the Tri State area of Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. They later moved to Pennsylvania where they resided until 1989. During her time in Pennsylvania Lorene worked for a local motel where she was the manager. In 1989, Lorene and Ray returned home to Cleveland where she has continued to reside. Lorene enjoyed being a homemaker and most of all loved being around her family. She was an avid volunteer and member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lorene was also a very active part and member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. The United Methodist Women Group was very important to Lorene. She was proud of what they stood for including: Promoting anti-racism and multiculturalism, inclusion and equality, fair labor practices as well as economic and environmental stewardship and sustainability. The group nationally will raise nearly $ 20 million dollars each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the US and in more than 100 countries around the world. Survivors are her brother Wilburn Floyd Dixon and his wife Edna Mae of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three sister in laws Ethel Bowdre of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ruth Wilkinson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Katy Vaughn of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Ray Stearman and one brother Berl Dixon. Chapel Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. David Mingus officiating. Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma .under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
