Lloyd George Carter

Lloyd George Carter passed from this life on Monday, October 22, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, six months and seven days. Lloyd was born on April 15, 1918, in Stuart, Oklahoma. He was the son of Finley Alva and Clementine (Dykes) Carter. As a young child Lloyd moved with his family to the Cleveland Area and began his education at the Rigsby School near Sinnett. Lloyd had to quit school early which was normal during that time to help his family provide for his eleven other siblings. Following a church service a young lady Alfreda Kavanaugh Tunstall caught his eye. Following a short courtship Lloyd was united to the love of his life Alfreda on July 19, 1941, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Old Mannford and later moved to Tulsa. In 1944, Lloyd was selected to serve his country with the United States Army. In 1946, Lloyd was honorably discharged and returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upon his return Lloyd began working as a truck driver. In 1949, Lloyd and Freda moved to Sand Springs where they have continued to reside. Lloyd has worked for several different freight companies in the Tulsa Area and was last employed with ABF Freight when he retired in 1981. Following retirement Lloyd was not happy staying at home. So Lloyd later became a partner with his son Lee who established A-1 Rental and Supply in Sand Springs in 1977. Lloyd was a man that loved his family dearly. He always cherished the times his family was together. Lloyd and Freda were avid bowlers and bowled on a league for many years at the Crystal Bowl. His highest score on record was 290. Lloyd and Freda loved to travel. The couple has been to nearly every state in the Union as well as a cruise to Alaska. Lloyd was a wonderful gardener and was known for his amazing tomatoes that he grew and shared with his friends and family. One of Lloydís favorite past times was to play dominoes and pitch as well as working crossword puzzles out of the newspaper.
