Lillian Marie Hawks

Lillian Marie Hardy Hawks was born March 21, 1928 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Orville and Hattie (McNames) Hardy. Marie was raised and attended school in Cleveland, graduating with the Class of 1946. Since Marie took many business type classes in high school she accepted employment after graduation with Atlas Life Insurance in Tulsa as a secretary and later was promoted to executive secretary. After several years with Atlas, Marie accepted a similar position working as an executive secretary for Nelson Electric for many years. Marie was married to Frederick William Hawks on March 28, 1958 and resided in Tulsa their entire married life, until Fred preceded her in death on November 23, 2004. Marie continued to reside in their home in Tulsa until moving to the Sinnett area near Cleveland in 2011, to be closer to her daughter, Priscilla. Marie enjoyed searching for and finding antiques and collectables, especially dolls. She often attended garage, yard and estate sales looking for a bargain, some to collect for herself and other items to offer for sale at flea markets for over 30 years. She loved to watch football and was an avid Dallas Cowboy and University of Oklahoma fan. Marie also loved watching The Young and the Restless with her daughter. Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie was described by her family as a funny, independent, stylish and giving lady. She always remained active and enjoyed being busy. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa and was a fifty year, paid up for life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She passed from this life on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her daughterís home near Cleveland at the age of eighty five. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Curtis Lee Hardy and Donald Dean Hardy. Marie is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Helvie of Cleveland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Shield of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sarah Naomi McGrew of Terlton, Oklahoma, Rachel Anne Herring of Rogers, Arkansas, SFC Joshua Saul Davison, United States Army of Yelm, Washington; Erica Belle Marie Trammell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Jack Roy Helvie of Blue Eye, Missouri; ten great-grandchildren, Bradley, Rachel, Brooklynn and Lillian Shield; Alayna and Lyla McGrew; Caitlynn, Ethan and Jaxon Davison; and Adeline Trammell; and a sister-in-law and niece, Catherine and Linda Hardy of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chapel Services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with her granddaughter, Rebecca Shield officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
