Funeral services for Letha Mae Brown, former Hominy resident, will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Larry Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Letha passed from this life, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the age of eighty-eight years, eight months and nine days at her home in Edmond, Oklahoma where she had been residing since May of 2016. Serving as pallbearers will be Douglas Mayo, Michael "Bryce" Brown, Daniel Glover, Johnnie Brown, Gary Brown, Steve Belmear and John Todd Belmear.

Letha was born on July 12, 1928 in Nelagoney, Osage County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Ernest and Stella (Osborne) Farmer. Letha was raised and attended school in Nelagoney, graduating from Nelagoney High School in 1946. While in high school, Letha was active in the band and was a guard on the basketball team.

After graduation, Letha was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Pawhuska as a switchboard operator. She later transferred to Cleveland and remained employed by SWBell until modernization phased out the switchboard operators in the 1960's.

She was united in marriage to Lewis "Sterling" Brown on December 23, 1950 in Pawhuska where they made their initial home. Sterling was employed in oil exploration and drilling business. Following a move to Cleveland, OK in the early 1950's the couple built a Grade A Dairy south of Hominy on the family farm. In the late 1950's they built their family home on the farm where they raised their 2 children, Deborah "Debbie" and Michael "Mike" Lewis.

The couple enjoyed traveling with some of their most memorable vacations at Yellowstone National Park and Colorado.

Letha was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hominy. Additionally, she was a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in her beautiful flower gardens. She was mowing her yard until 2016.

Sterling preceded her in death on January 11, 2008. In addition to her husband, Letha was preceded in death by her son Mike in 2015, her parents, and a brother, Albertus "Bertie" Farmer.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Mayo and her husband, Lonnie of Edmond, Oklahoma, daughter in law, Connie Brown of Hominy, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Leah Marie Mayo and her husband, Daniel Glover of Houston, Texas, Douglas Mayo and his wife, Sarah of Cedar Park, Texas, Gina Long and her husband, Pat Long of Optima, Oklahoma, and Michael "Bryce" Brown of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and also three great-grandchildren, twins, Sadie and Addison Mayo and Logan Long plus numerous extended family and friends.
