Leonard A. Hitt was born January 11, 1924 in Mannsville, Oklahoma. He was the son of Arthur R. and Stella L. Hitt. He was raised and received his education in the Madill, Oklahoma area.
Leonard was married to Thelma Ruth Black on May 25, 1946 in Lexington, South Carolina. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Kansas in the fall of 1946. Leonard initially accepted employment at a gasoline station and then went to work in a feed store. Leonard and Thelma had three children, Albert, Murphy and Linda. He later accepted employment with the Kansas Blueprint and Geological Society and worked there for over twenty years. They moved to Osage County near Cleveland, Oklahoma several years ago.
Leonard passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home at the age of seventy-eight years, eleven months and twenty-one days. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roy, Willie and Wilburn Hitt.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Ruth of the home; two sons, Albert Hitt and Murphy Hitt, both of Hominy, Oklahoma; daughter, Linda Kay Burkett of Garretson, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Bessie Carney of Wichita, Kansas, Grace Reves of Harper, Kansas, Francis Faulkner of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Violet Rourke of Wichita, Kansas and Annie Jean Gray of Santa Fe, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Dakota Rush officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
