Leoma Mae Spencer, lifelong Cleveland area resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Cimarron Pointe Care Center in Mannford, at the age of eighty-three years, one month and ten days.

Leoma was born on August 31, 1922 in Jenny Lind, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Elmer and Atoka Mae Mizell. Leoma moved with her family at the age of three to the Cleveland area where she has continued to reside her entire life.

She was married to Willis Alford Spencer in Cleveland on April 14, 1947. The couple resided on a farm, south of Cleveland until Mr. Spencer passed away on February 15, 1993. Shortly after the death of her husband, Leoma moved into town and resided there until recently when for health reasons moved to Cimarron Pointe Care Center in Mannford.

She worked for several years at the cafÈ owned by Tiny Greer as a cook. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially loved to play games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including dominoes and checkers. Additionally, she loved to grow a flower garden each year and enjoyed starting plants from her own and providing them to others. Leoma was also an avid seamstress during her younger years, providing clothes for her daughters.

Leoma is survived by a son, Edmond Lee Spencer, Florence, Kansas; two daughters, Elsie Burgess, Cleveland, Oklahoma and Beulah Wilson, Ponca City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Matt Spencer, Wichita, Kansas, Eddie Spencer, Florence, Kansas, Becky Harris, Florence, Kansas, Julie Spess, Cleveland, Oklahoma., Bob Burgess, Spring, Texas, Gary Wilson, Spring, Texas and Janet London, Denver, Colorado; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Leoma was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John, James J. B. and Pete Mizell; a sister, Maggie Sisco; a daughter, Nadine Bernice Spencer; and a grandson, Mark Burgess.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2005 at the Church of Christ in Cleveland with Robert Prater officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
