Lela Leverence Davis, 87, passed from this life on August 26, 2019, at her home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Born March 4, 1932 in Keystone, Oklahoma Lela was the daughter of Amyle Arnold and Blanche Nellie (Booth) Peterman. Growing up around the Keystone Area, Lela attended Rigsby School until 9th grade, then Cleveland Public Schools where she graduated with the class of 1950. In 1951 she married J.D. Davis in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their home on the family farm. In the late 1950s, after J.D. returned home from the Korean War, they built their current home, raising their four children there.
Lela loved to cook cinnamon rolls and bread. Lela and J.D. always talked about the trip they made to the west coast and into Canada with Amyle and his wife Wanda along with Tommy and his wife Vonnie. Lela’s family describes her as very giving; always putting others first. She has been a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she always read her Bible and always looked forward to going to meetings.
Lela is survived by a daughter, Anita Davis, and a son, Rickey Davis; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Frankie Wallace, and Armina Scott. Preceding Lela in death are her husband; her parents; 2 sons, Marlin Davis and Norman Davis; 3 brothers, Amyle Peterman, Tommy Peterman, and Edwin Peterman; and three sisters, Wilma Gray, Juanita Collins, and Elnora Dawson.
A visitation will be held for Lela on Friday, August 30, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Chapman-Black Funeral Home. A life celebration will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 10:30 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel. George McGuire will officiate the service. Lela will be laid to rest at Sinnett Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.chapman-black.com.
