Lavonna June Maxwell, 78, passed from this life on November 14, 2020, in Chandler, Oklahoma.
Lavonna was born on January 30, 1942, at Chowchilla, California, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Lari Addeline (Elliott) Maxwell. As a young girl, Lavonna grew up and attended school in Chowchilla. Following the completion of her education, Lavonna was united in marriage to the love of her life Stephen Jasper Maxwell on June 16, 1958. They established their initial home in Chowchilla, where they started their family. In the 1980s, Lavonna and Stephen moved to Oklahoma. Lavonna always felt that education was the starting point to success; she returned and obtained her GED. While returning to school, Lavonna worked at the Cleveland Manor Nursing Home, helping prepare meals for the residents. Several years later and after obtaining her dietician certification, she gained employment at the Dick Conners Correctional Facility in Hominy. After working her way up, Lavonna retired in 2008 and was the Food Service Superintendent.
Lavonna loved cooking, which made her love her job even more enjoyable. She also made numerous friends and relatives' wedding cakes as well as birthday cakes. It has been said by many that pies were her specialty. Visiting with family and traveling back to California were enjoyable and memorable events for her. Lavonna also had a green thumb, always making plants and flowers thrive when others were not able.
Survivors are her children Ladonna Maxwell of McLoud, Oklahoma, Stephen Maxwell of Chowchilla, California, Stillman Maxwell and his wife Pam of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Danny Maxwell of Cleveland, Oklahoma, William Maxwell of Chandler, Oklahoma, Lori Cross and husband Ricky of Chandler, Oklahoma; two sisters Donna Lea of Chowchilla, CA, Bonnie Bartley and husband of Reno, NV; two brothers Larry Maxwell of Chowchilla, CA, Donnie Maxwell and wife Brenda of Madera, CA; twenty grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. Preceded in death were her parents, husband Stephen Maxwell and a brother Charles Maxwell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Head officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am till 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery at Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Pallbearers will include Sam Maxwell, Chris Maxwell, Ricky Cross Jr., Cameron Cady, Michael Maxwell, and Vernon Duncan. Honorary pallbearers will be John Maxwell, Stephen Maxwell, Mason Maxwell, Jared Maxwell, Jacob Waller.
