Larry Lee Hall was born on November 28, 1943 in Salem, Illinois; the son of Loren and Berthalee Virginia (Pearson) Hall. He moved with his mother and two brothers, Pete and Dale to Cleveland in 1948, initially residing in an apartment above Carriger Hardware and Tractor on South Broadway. They later moved to the east side of town as his mother accepted employment as a cook with various restaurants in town including, 3-Sisters Cafe, Art's Cafe, J.R.'s and Ward's Restaurant. As he progressed through life he also enjoyed cooking and entertaining; a trait he must have inherited from his mother Larry was raised in Cleveland and attended his entire schooling here, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1962. While attending high school his junior year, Larry accepted a position working for Glenn Cook at CookÃs Grocery. He worked in all aspects of the store including stocking groceries, cleaning, cashier, and eventually as a butcher while attending classes and assisting his mother in anyway he could. After graduation, he continued to work at the grocery store and attended drafting school in Tulsa. On April 13, 1964, he enlisted into the service of his country in the United States Air Force; serving as a Weapons Control Systems Mechanic Sergeant with the 13th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Glasgow Air Force Base in Montana. He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1968 and returned to Oklahoma. While serving in the Air Force, Larry was married to the love of his life, Jane Cook on January 8, 1965 at the Church of Christ in Cleveland. Upon completion of his military obligation, Larry and Jane returned to Oklahoma and moved to Norman where Larry attended the University of Oklahoma Engineering School for a couple of years and then returned to Cleveland in 1970. Larry returned to work in the grocery business for a couple of years and managed the Davis IGA store for a short time before accepting employment with Horine Construction Company. While working parttime for Frank Horine, Larry attended school at Oklahoma State University obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology in 1978. He continued working as a drafting and construction manager for Horine Construction until 1986 when he opened a NAPA Auto Parts Store in Cleveland with his friend, Garry Davis. In 1988, Larry was hired as the City Manager of Cleveland, Oklahoma and served in that capacity for nearly five years, resigning in 1993 to start his own construction company, Halmark Construction. For the next three years, he designed and built homes in the Tulsa and surrounding area. He was an excellent draftsman and architect and build many beautiful homes. In 1996, Larry accepted a position as a contract worker with Cleveland Inspection, assisting with the inspection of full pipeline systems and related entities including process plants, pumps and compressor stations, terminals and tanks. He later accepted employment as a Inventory Manager for McDaniels in Poteau for about four years before retiring for health reasons in 2007. Larry was an outdoorsman; he loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed fishing everywhere that he traveled and spent countless hours on the water with family and friends whenever possible. He also enjoyed hunting; while residing in Montana he would hunt for elk and moose whenever possible and even bow hunted for bear in Montana. Larry also enjoyed cooking and liked to entertain and prepare meals for his friends and family. Larry was baptized into the family of Christ at the Church of Christ in Cleveland and attended faithfully for many years. His calm spirit during his final days reflected his faith in Christ and provided a soothing comfort for his family in his transition from this life. With his wife by his side, Larry Lee Hall passed away Monday, March 5, 2012 at his home near Cleveland at the age of sixty-eight after a lengthy battle with cancer. His quiet and reflective spirit along with his honest, creative and witty personality will be his legacy and will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Jane of the home; daughter, Amanda Armstrong and her husbnd Brian of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; four brothers Herald L. "Pete" Hall and his wife Linda of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Steve Hall and his wife Sally of Helena, Montana, Michael Wayne Hall of Helena, Montana, Alan Hall and his wife Tonya of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Sophie Hall of Greeley, Colorado; two grandchildren, Logan and Emily Armstrong both of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren Carson and Kennedy of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by mother Berthalee Virginia Hall; father, Loren Lawrence Hall and a brother Loren Dale Hall. A celebration of the life of Larry Hall will be held at the First Christian Church at 3:00 pm, Friday, March 9, 2012 with David Logsdon and Gene Black officiating. Following cremation, a family scattering will be conducted in accordance with his wishes. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com
