Larry E. Adams, longtime resident of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His graveside service will be conducted at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Steve Upshaw officiating. Chapman Black Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Larry was born on April 20, 1932 on a farm near Boston Pool, Oklahoma, the son of Eugene Ellis Adams and Hettie Ester McCabe Adams. He grew up in Cleveland and received his education through the Cleveland School System graduating from Cleveland High School with the class of 1950. While in school he participated in football and track. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Oriskany (CVA-34) and U.S.S. Princeton (CV-37). Larry was employed for over fifty seven years as a Pipeliner and traveled throughout the United States and North Africa. He also worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System from inception to completion. Larry is survived by two sons, Derek Adams of Houston, Texas and Anthony Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Zachary Adams, DanÃl Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and KiÃana Adams of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Wright and Maddison Wright of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Glen and his wife Delores of Odessa, Texas; and one sister, Orene Upshaw of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, and his son Cornell. Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and was known for his roaming the woods, picking blackberries, poke greens and pecans which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be missed daily by his family and friends. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home or online at www.chapman-black.com.
