Lance Michael Toineeta, 35, of Hominy, Oklahoma passed from this life on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born on June 27, 1982, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Howard Lance and Angela (Satepauhoodle) Toineeta descendant of Sate-I-en-gyi, Goom-so-gope (Kiowa), Chief John Oberly, Sara Petsemoie and Fidelis Cole, Pearl Cayou (Osage). Michael was raised and received his education in Hominy. He was a very active in football and track during his time in school and was awarded All-State Lineman his Senior year. Michael was also a member of the State Championship Track team as well. He graduated from Hominy with the Class of 2001. Following high school, Michael attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He later decided to begin working in the oil fields of Oklahoma accepting a position with Eyler Drilling as a rig technician. He then returned to college and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health and Safety in 2013. After graduating, Michael accepted a position with Michels Corporation in 2014. Michael’s position with Michels Corporation as the Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator. He was a dedicated health and safety professional that had a passion for ensuring the safety of each of his crews. Michael was someone that everyone could count on and would drop everything to assist a crew with a problem. He was a respected co-worker and employee who would always go above and beyond what was asked. His job entailed making sure the safety and health of his people, contractors and customers were paramount. Michael’s mission was to ensure everyone returned home safely each day. His go-to phrase was “Safety First.” We would also like to thank the Long Branch and Best Western Hotel for the recreational employment opportunity (Hotel California). On August 5, 2017, Michael was united in marriage to Jamie Roberts in Hominy, Oklahoma. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where they were currently residing.

Michael loved cooking outside, being with his girls and family. He also enjoyed floating the Illinois River. It was not uncommon to find Michael driving the backroads looking at the scenery. His favorite band was the Turnpike Troubadours.

Survivors are his wife Jamie of the home; two children Mihya and Leighlah Toineeta of the home; parents Lance and Angela Toineeta of Hominy, Oklahoma; one sister Alexandria Toineeta of Hominy, Oklahoma, paternal grandmother Beverly Goebel of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; aunts and uncles Charisse, Silas Ray, Lynette, Craig Don Satepauhoodle, Rocky White as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Michael Dennis Toineeta and maternal grandparents Evans Ray and Genevieve Jewell (Oberly) Satepauhoodle and great grandparents Sam and Nellie (Doyah) Satepauhoodle, Alfred and Beulah and (Cole)Oberly Jackson.

Funeral services will begin at 8:00 AM Wednesday at Hominy Village Chapel with Herman Mongrain Lookout speaking. Prayer services will be 7:00 pm Tuesday at the Hominy Village Chapel. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com.

Pallbearers will include Reuben DeRoin, Jim Hopper, Ronnie Gilley, Cody Tucker, Leon Grayeyes, Jarod Washmon, John Carns and Louis B Dailey, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Dodds Terrell, Coach D., Coach Riley and employees of Michel’s Corporation.
