Kyle Dee Foulks

At the age of 75, Kyle Dee Foulks died peacefully Tuesday morning, July 13, 2010 with his wife Alice at his bedside. Kyle was born in Cleveland July 7, 1935 to Mildred and Aleck Foulks. He was one of four brothers. After graduating from Cleveland High School in 1954 Kyle joined the Navy as a torpedomanís mate serving in the ëSilent Serviceí aboard submarines. He was on the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine, when she went out for sea-trials back in 1954. In 1958 Kyle married and had three sons John, Donald, and James, all born in New London, Ct. There, he was an instructor for the Mark-48 torpedo. During the Vietnam War the Navy sent him for a year to the field for duties. His career took him all over the world. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1974 in San Diego, CA. Following his military retirement, he settled in Southern California, remarried, and had a daughter Heather. There he worked for API alarms systems installing fire and security systems until he retired in the 90ís. He liked restoring classic cars and on a few occasions showed them at local car shows. His other pass times were bicycle riding and rollerblading along the L.A. and Orange County beaches. Following his retirement from API he traveled the U.S. visiting his three brothers Keith, Kenneth and Kay. Kyle returned to Belmont Shore, CA. and married Alice. For fun, he worked at the downtown Long Beach Bike n Ride for the Blue Line commuter train. There he repaired and stored bicycles for the daily commuters. Wherever he was, Kyle knew all the restaurants in town along with the owners and the waitresses. In return they all knew him by name. He had the ability to talk to anyone about anything. One thing for sure, he always knew where the local Starbucks was. He always had a couple funnies up his sleeve and at times he could be innocently mischievous. Kyle loved his camera and was always ready for that next Kodak moment. Kyle returned to Cleveland, Oklahoma on July 19, 2005. When asked if he missed the beaches in Ca. he said no ìI miss where I grew upî. Heather his daughter is thankful for him returning to Cleveland where he was surrounded by friends who cared for him and his wife Alice last couple of years. To this day he still has many class mates who gather yearly for their High School reunion. His classmates describe Kyle as always being a great friend and that he will truly be missed. Kyle is survived by his wife Alice of the home, four children John, Donald, James, Heather; brother Terry Leon Foulks of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Kourtney, Kenny, Chris, and baby Chloe due this August as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
