Funeral services for Henry Kent Jones, 55, of Hominy, Oklahoma, will be held October 15, 2007 at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma with Pastor Kenny Christian and Toby Cleminshire officiating. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Kent was born March 15, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of Herbert Henry and Helen Irene (Wise) Jones. At a young age Kent moved with his family to Hominy where he began attending school. While in high school Kent was active in track as well as basketball. Kent graduated with the Class of 1970. While Kent was in school he would often help his father before school at the Jones Bakery in Hominy. After completing high school Kent began working in the oil field. He worked for Southland Oil Company, Hughes, Cruzen Drilling and last for Reed and Reed Engine. On January 13, 1978 he was united in marriage to Ronda Sue (Davis) in Hominy, Oklahoma. After retiring in 1998 from the oil industry Kent opened A & A Pawn in Cleveland which he was currently operating.
Kent had a love for spending time with his family. They would often travel to gun shows, playing cards as well as other games as a family. Kent would also gather his family on Sundays; go to Tulsa to shop, eat, play arcade games or just relax watching a movie. During the Christmas holidays he would go to extremes on decorating as well as buying gifts for his family. Mr. Jones also enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting. Kent would attend all of the Hominy High School athletic events. He was also an avid OU and Hominy Buck Fan. Mr. Jones was an active member and part of the Calvary Worship Center; driving the bus on Wednesday nights making sure that if anyone wanted to attend that they had a means of getting there. He also taught the adult Sunday School Class for many years.
Kent went to be with his Lord and Saviour Thursday October 11, 2007 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma at the age of 55 years 6 months and 26 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son John Paul Jones in 1976.
Survived by his wife, Ronda of the home; six children, Michael David Jones and his wife Christel; Jami Lyn Jones; Jillian Rachael Jones; Joseph Kent Jones; Jerrad DeWayne Jones; Jordan Michael Jones all of Hominy, Oklahoma; one brother, Melvin Garvin of Hinton, Oklahoma; three sisters, Gwen Rutherford of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Brynn Gee of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Sue Carolyn Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Chelsea Hendricks, Matthew Kent Jones, Jaxon Daniel Jones all of Hominy, Oklahoma as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Merle Long, Norman Purcell, Robert Cruzen, Roy Boone, Homer Holding and Mark Williams. Honorary pallbearers will include Finn, Charlie Thomas, Rodney Marlin, Dewey Cox, Toby Clemishire, Ed Bedient, Ty Young, Steve Eddings and Fred Williams.
